چکیده
Primates are frequently used today in dental research and in South Africa the primate most commonly used is the vervet monkey (Cercopithecus pygerythus). This paper describes the normal histology of the soft palate in this animal based on a preliminary study towards the possible use of the vervet monkey in cleft palate research. Materials and methods Twenty-five soft palates from adult vervet monkeys were examined. Fifteen were used for routine histology, six for nerve impregnations, and four for keratin histochemistry. The following fixatives were used:

Yersinia enterocolitica Infection in a Vervet Monkey (Cercopithecus aethiops) in Iran
A vervet monkey (Cercopithecus aethiops) housed at quarantine of Razi vaccine and serum research institute died following a few days of sickness. Multiple abscesses on the surface and inside the liver and enlargement of spleen with pinpoint white spot were the most prominent macroscopic features. We examined the organs of the dead monkey and Yersinia enterocolitica was isolated. In histopatho...

Monkeys are important experimental models for investigating human diseases. The aim of this study was to survey the alimentary tract parasites among imported vervet monkeys (Cercopithecus aethiops) to Iran. Fecal samples were collected from 40 vervets imported from Tanzania to Razi Vaccine and Serum Research Institute of Iran. Fecal samples were assessed by direct smear and Telman sedimentation...

The morphology of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and closely associated Bruch's membrane (complexus basalis) and choriocapillaris have been investigated by electron microscopy in the vervet monkey (Cercopithecus aethiops). The RPE is composed of a single layer of cuboidal cells joined laterally by apically-located junctional complexes. Basally (sclerally) these cells display numerous info...

Developing teeth in the Vervet monkey (Cercopithecus aethiops) were examined at various pre-eruptive stages. A longitudinal arrangement o f periodontal fibres was seen grouped alongside the hone and cementum and parallel to them. These fibres later ex tended coronally, passing around the reduced enamel epithelium. It was difficult to compare this study to other species as there were difference...
متن کاملThe Importance of the Vervet (African Green Monkey) as a Biomedical Model
The vervet monkey (Chlorocebus aethiops, formerly Cercopithecus aethiops) has long been among the most important non-human primate (NHP) models for biomedical research, with a PubMed citation record (over the past 10 years) close to that of rhesus macaque and much greater than that of any other NHP. The dramatic recent growth in the use of vervet as a model derives in part from its recognized u...
